Simone’s poetry brings her to institutions, classrooms, and community events to read and lead discussions. Her debut full-length collection Testify, was published by Octopus Books in 2017. She received an MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College with an emphasis on documentary poetics. Simone was the recipient of the 2020 Poetry Fellowship from the Mass Cultural Council. Her work has been reviewed in PBS Newshour, Boston Globe, Bustle, Publisher's Weekly, and elsewhere.
Simone is a Senior Associate at the Interaction Institute for Social Change, an organization that builds collaborative capacity in individuals, organizations, and networks working for social justice and racial equity.
Through Hive Soul Yoga, Simone facilitates workshops and retreats at colleges and organizations across the city. Hive Soul workshops merge self-reflection, popular culture, and productivity research into accessible life design resources for scrappy millennials and creatives of color.
Simone has written creative writing curriculums focused on critical thinking and civic engagement for K-12 students. Simone has written about the importance providing high quality arts education for youth of color and created professional development trainings for youth workers and teaching artists.
