ABOUT

Simone John is an interdisciplinary artist whose recent works focus on transgressive Black femininity and the legacy of the Great Migration in Boston, Massachusetts. John is a fabulist archival storyteller working primarily in digital media, poetry, and performance.


She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College, with an emphasis on documentary poetics. Her debut poetry collection Testify (Octopus Books) was published in 2017. Her work has been exhibited at the Harriet Tubman House Gallery, the August Wilson Society Colloquium, inPUBLIC Festival of Public Making and Projecting Our Future. She received a Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Fellowship and a residency at The Strange Foundation.
